Claude vs Gemini for Small Business (2026)
By Ethan Halfhide · Updated October 4, 2026
Claude vs Gemini is less a contest between two chatbots than a question about what your business already runs on. Their personal plans cost about the same, $20 a month for Claude Pro and $19.99 for Google AI Pro. The bigger difference is packaging. Google bundles Gemini with cloud storage and builds it into Gmail, Docs and the rest of Google Workspace. Anthropic's pricing page lists no storage allowance and no email service, and lists connections to other tools instead. Everything below comes from Anthropic's and Google's own pricing and help pages, checked on October 4, 2026. We did not test either product.

TL;DR: Quick answer
If your business already pays for Google Workspace, check what Gemini access your plan includes before buying anything, because Google lists the Gemini app as a core service on most editions. If you do not use Google's apps, the personal plans cost about the same, so try both free plans on one real task. For work that involves client or company information, start from a business plan, where both companies say your data is not used for training by default. That default is not permission to share client-confidential or regulated material, so check your client agreements and any rules that cover the data first.
This page sets out what Anthropic and Google publish about plans, prices, team options and data use, so a business owner can decide what to pay for. It makes no claim about which assistant writes, reasons or codes better.
| Plan | Claude | Gemini |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free: $0 | Free: $0, 15 GB storage |
| Low-cost | No plan listed | Google AI Plus: $4.99/mo, 400 GB |
| Personal | Pro: $20/mo, or $17/mo annual | Google AI Pro: $19.99/mo, 5 TB |
| Heavy use | Max: $100 or $200/mo | Google AI Ultra: $99.99 or $199.99/mo |
| Small team | Team: $25/seat, or $20 annual | Gemini Enterprise: from $21/seat |
| Team size | 2 to 150 seats | Up to 300 seats |
| Larger teams | Enterprise: $20/seat plus API usage | Gemini Enterprise Standard: from $30/seat |
| Office suite | None listed | Google Workspace: from $7/user/mo |
Team prices are per seat per month, and "annual" means the monthly rate when billed annually. Claude Pro's annual price is charged as $200 up front. Claude Max is $100 a month for 5x Pro usage or $200 for 20x, billed monthly, and Team premium seats are $125, or $100 billed annually. Google AI Ultra is $99.99 a month for 5x Google AI Pro limits or $199.99 for 20x. Gemini Enterprise is a separate business product from the Google AI plans, and the $21 price is its Business edition. Anthropic's pricing page lists no plan between Free and Pro.
Google's paid Google AI plans bundle the assistant with cloud storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos. Anthropic's pricing page does not list a cloud storage allowance on any Claude plan. Anthropic notes that its prices do not include applicable tax.
These are summaries of the feature lines on each official page. Neither gives usage limits as fixed numbers of messages.
Check this before you pay for anything. Google says the Gemini app is available as a core service with most editions of Google Workspace. Its Business editions page lists the Gemini app on Business Starter, and access to Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Meet and more on Business Standard. The Workspace pricing page describes Starter's access to Gemini in Workspace apps as limited and Standard's as expanded.
| Workspace edition | Annual plan | Flexible plan |
|---|---|---|
| Business Starter | $7/user/mo | $8.40/user/mo |
| Business Standard | $14/user/mo | $16.80/user/mo |
| Business Plus | $22/user/mo | $26.40/user/mo |
Google lists these editions for up to 300 users. So a business on Workspace may already have Gemini without a separate subscription. Check which edition you are on before buying one.
Anthropic's pricing page lists no email service or storage allowance. Its Pro plan lists Claude Design, Slides and Docs, and Claude in Microsoft 365 and in Chrome, and its Team help page lists connectors for Google Drive, Gmail and Slack.
One person: $20 a month for Claude Pro, or $17 a month billed annually, charged as $200 up front. $19.99 a month for Google AI Pro.
Five people on Claude Team: 5 x $25 = $125 a month with monthly billing, or 5 x $20 x 12 = $1,200 a year with annual billing.
Five people on Gemini Enterprise, Business edition: Google lists it from $21 per seat per month, so from 5 x $21 = $105 a month. Google's page says "starting at", so treat that as a floor.
Five people on Google Workspace Business Standard: 5 x $14 = $70 a month on an annual plan, or 5 x $16.80 = $84 a month flexible. That price covers email, documents and storage as well as Gemini.
Five people already on Google Workspace: possibly nothing extra, depending on the edition. That is the first thing to check.
Anthropic says its prices do not include applicable tax. We did not find a tax statement on the Google pages we read, so assume tax may be added there too.
Claude, personal plans (Free, Pro, Max). Anthropic's pricing page labels model training on these plans as "Opt-out". Anthropic says chats are used for training if you choose to allow it, if a conversation is flagged for safety review, or if you opt in some other way, and that Incognito chats are not used even when the model improvement setting is on. Check the setting in your own account.
Claude Team and Enterprise. Anthropic's pricing page lists model training as "None by default" on Team and Enterprise. Anthropic says that by default it will not use inputs or outputs from its commercial products to train its models, and it says Claude for Work includes its Team and Enterprise plans. The exceptions are feedback or bug reports you send, or data you choose to allow.
Gemini, personal Google accounts. Google's Gemini Apps Privacy Hub says a subset of chats is reviewed by human reviewers to help improve Google services. The control is called Keep Activity. With it off, and if you do not send feedback, Google says it does not use your future chats to improve its AI models. It still uses chats to respond to you and to help protect Google, its users and the public, including with help from human reviewers. Google says activity is auto-deleted after 18 months by default, that chats made with Keep Activity off are kept for 72 hours, and that reviewed chats are retained for up to three years. Google also advises against entering confidential information that you would not want a reviewer to see.
Gemini in Google Workspace. Google's Workspace privacy hub says: "Your content is not human reviewed or otherwise used for Generative AI model training outside your domain without permission." Check that your Workspace edition is one the hub covers.
Gemini Enterprise. Google's Gemini Enterprise FAQ says your data, including prompts and outputs, is not used to train Google models or models for any other customer.
The pattern is similar for both: on a personal account, training depends on settings you have to check, and with Gemini some human review can continue whatever the setting. On a business product, each company says it does not use your data for training, in the terms quoted above.
A business plan changes the training default: the vendor says it does not train its models on your conversations by default. That is not a promise about security, and it is not permission to share a client's confidential or regulated information. Whether you may do that depends on your contracts and confidentiality agreements with clients, on any law or professional rules that cover the data, such as health, financial or personal data, and on the vendor's own terms for business plans, which this page does not cover, such as how long conversations are kept and who can access them. Check those before anyone pastes in client material. If you are not sure, leave it out.
We read Anthropic's and Google's official pricing pages and help center articles on October 4, 2026, took prices from them and summarised the plan features they list. Figures come from the official pages listed under Sources. We did not test these products, run benchmarks or survey users. Prices and plan contents change often, so check the linked pages before you buy.
Start with what you already pay for. A business on Google Workspace may already have Gemini, and using what is included costs nothing extra. If you are not on Google Workspace, the personal plans are a cent apart on monthly billing, so price will not decide it: run the same real task through both free plans and pay for the one whose answer you would have used. For a small team with no Workspace subscription, Claude Team is $25 per seat billed monthly or $20 billed annually, and Gemini Enterprise starts at $21 per seat. Either way, if the work involves client information, start from a business product, because by default the vendor does not train on it. That does not replace checking what your client agreements and any rules covering the data allow. For a similar breakdown of OpenAI's assistant, see ChatGPT vs Claude.

Get my AI score: it's freeThe personal plans are a cent apart on monthly billing as of October 4, 2026: Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $17 billed annually, and Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month. Google also has a lower-cost Google AI Plus plan at $4.99 a month. For teams, Claude Team is $25 per seat per month billed monthly or $20 billed annually, and Gemini Enterprise's Business edition starts at $21 per seat.
Google says the Gemini app is available as a core service with most editions of Google Workspace. Its Business editions page lists the Gemini app on Business Starter and Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Meet and more on Business Standard. Check your own edition before buying a separate plan.
Yes. Anthropic lists a Free plan with chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation and Artifacts. Google lists a Free plan with image generation, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems, plus 15 GB of storage.
On business products, both companies say no by default. Anthropic lists model training as none by default on Team and Enterprise, unless you send feedback or choose to allow it. Google says Workspace content is not used for generative AI model training outside your domain without permission. Personal accounts are different: Anthropic labels its personal plans opt-out, and Google says a subset of Gemini chats is reviewed by human reviewers. With Keep Activity off, and if you do not send feedback, Google says it does not use future chats to improve its AI models, but human reviewers may still be involved to help protect Google and its users. A no-training default is not the same as permission to share a client's confidential or regulated information, so check your client agreements and any rules that cover the data as well.
Anthropic's help page for the Team plan lists connectors for workplace tools such as Google Drive, Gmail and Slack, and its Free plan lists connecting your apps and tools. Gemini is built into Google's own apps on plans that list "Gemini directly in Google apps".
We did not test them, so this page does not say. Both companies list coding tools on paid plans: Anthropic lists Claude Code and Google lists a coding agent for software developers. One way to decide is to try both on a real piece of your own work.
